The Elopura Hotel

It is very stylish, situated right in the middle of old town next to the mall and near to the see, 5 minutes walking from the heritage trail. The stuff is very sweet and helpful. The room was quite comfortable and had the air conditioning.

The Elopura is a well run hotel with responsive and helpful staff who have good English skills. We had an issue with the room key activating the power to the room. Staff worked hard to address the problem and, even though it seemed that they'd fixed it, management decided we should move rooms anyway. The whole episode was attended to quickly and efficiently. Our (superior) room was quite small - comfortable but not luxurious. The view from our window, particularly at night, was nice - overlooking the harbourside restaurant and out to sea. The breakfast buffet had a range of choices (lots of carb rich foods!) and we didn't go hungry. Equally the harbourside restaurant had an expansive menu. Most things we needed were within walking distance (bank atm, pharmacy, supermarket, restaurants) and the Harbourside Mall houses lots of shops (including several mobile phones and eyewear shops) and a food-hall up the top for cheap meals. Tourist attractions 'in town' are within walking distance - provided one likes walking up hill and navigating lots of steps.

The hotel as well as nearby area is managed by the hotel itself. The location is nice, we requested a sea facing room and got it and the view was amazing. The rooms are spacious and you can easily spend enough time in rooms. The hotel is located in the market area and you can find restuarants and eateries at walking distance. Getting a cab was never an issue as hotel is located right opposite a mall. Being a vegetarian, they also accomodated our request for breakfast menu and prepared separate non-meat dishes for us. A great coffee shop called Roastery#1 was also walking distance and they also prepared some veg dishes for us. Overall this hotel experience was great in Sandakan.

The hotel is located in the only best place in the city of Sandakan. Waterfront, opposite a mall, 7 eleven just next to it. There are street food stalls opening around 5 pm with seating facing the sea. Hotel is clean, staff very nice, welcoming and helpful. They have luggage rooms, so if you are leaving for the jungle, they can store your big luggage for the days you are away. Rooms are just the perfect size, with all amenities included. The sea view rooms make your mornings perfectly beutiful. Breakfast is in the next building, wich is a restaurant belonging to the hotel. There is a great variety of local food, eggs, fruit. We can highly recommend the hotel, we stayed twice and would come back again if needed to stay in Sandakan. There is not much to do in the city itself, but is a great place as the gateway for nature trips outside of the city.

Great location on waterfront, and room was spacious and comfortable - air con worked great and bed was good. Pretty fair value for money. Breakfast has plenty of options, and outside deck area for dinner is nice with a good selection of food caravans to choose from.
